We have read numerous stories about rich and famous people going on lavish spending sprees in the past. Now, here is another tale of two anonymous businessmen who just walked into the 21 Club restaurant in New York City for dinner and left after dropping a bloated up bill of $18,737.18. Yes, you read it right! The two business associates spent $16,640 on two bottles of Petrus ’82 wine that is world’s most expensive and rarest Bordeaux wine. The duo spent around 90 minutes in the restaurant and ordered the first bottle of rare wine followed by some appetizers.
The ultra-rare Petrus ’82 wine was produced from merlot grapes on a small estate in Saint-Emilion, France.
Phil Pratt – wine director and à la carte sommelier at the 21 Club – told that the gentlemen knew what they were ordering and immediately after gulping first bottle, they asked Pratt to bring another one which put him in a state of astonishment. “Only three bottle of the ultra rare wine were sold in past three decades, and the last time he sold a Petrus ’82 was years ago at a posh private birthday celebration in the wine cellar,” he further added.
According to Pratt, the total sum they had to pay was $18,737.18, which included $1,494.68 in tax and a $400 tip.
