Tucked away along an alcove of Kapoho Beach in Pahoa, Hawai’i is a private retreat that exudes a feeling of tropical bliss and embodies the Big Island experience. Previously offered as a vacation getaway, the award-winning property, known simply as “Shangri-La,” can be found on the easternmost tip of the island of Hawai’i and is currently on the market for $1.625 million.

Walls of volcanic rock surround the estate and work to form a perimeter that traps the natural geothermic waters, waters that average a temperature of 90 degrees year-round thanks to the rejuvenating tide. The nearly half-acre property consists of four Bali-styled cottages set beneath rows of coconut and king palms, with a tranquil, naturally heated swimming lagoon running through it – creating nothing short of paradise spread customarily found within the pages of a luxury travel magazine.

The ‘Round House’ includes a yoga and meditation studio, and is also equipped with a small entertainment or meeting area, while the ‘Main Hale’ offers a fully stocked kitchen, pair of bedrooms and an outdoor bath complete with a sauna and sunken Jacuzzi. Found in the middle of the lagoon is an open island bedroom known as the ‘Floating Balinese Sleeping Hut’, which is accessible by either swimming through the lagoon or by way of a narrow walking bridge. And last, but not least, hidden away at the edge of the property is the ‘Tea House Bungalow’, a separate residence that includes an additional bedroom, dining area and kitchenette for guests.
