GUCCI- the official page: News just in from Cannes!
Salma Hayek will auction off her one of a kind red carpet gown in aid of Haitian Relief Organization at an event organized by her friend Penèlope Cruz! Not to be missed later today all the action from the red carpet at the screening of the restored version of Luchino Visconti’s 1963 classic “The Leopard” . Frida Giannnini will wear a full length Gucci Première gown for the screening and then later will slip into a cocktail dress for dinner, stay tuned as we post more celebrities in Gucci Première later today!
The 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival opened on Wednesday with the premiere of the New Robin Hood movie starring Academy Award winners Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett (out in theatres today), but that was not the only first for the day’s events. Salma Hayek Pinault wore the very first gown from Gucci’s debut couture line, Gucci Première, designed especially for her by Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini. It is not surprising that Salma would have been chosen for such an honor – she is, after all, married to esteemed (and ridiculously wealthy) French businessman, François-Henri Pinault, who runs Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR for short), the luxury retail stable founded by his father that counts fabled brands like Balenciaga, YSL, Bottega Veneta and of course, Gucci, among some of it’s most prized ponies. Pinault is also the father of their young daughter, Valentina Paloma.
Salma’s gown, a sumptuous port-colored, one-shoulder piece of confection, with strategic draping punctuated by crystal-encrusted broaches at the shoulder and hip, will be auctioned off at an event, which will be held later during the festival, organized by her friend, Penélope Cruz, in support of the Haitian Relief Organization. (Ahhh, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.)
This is surely a sartorial coup de grâce for the 38 year-old Frida Giannini, who is not only expected to dress more celebrities during the Cannes Festival, but will be wearing one of her own creations tonight at a dinner she is co-hosting with Vanity Fair editor-in-chief, Graydon Carter, honoring legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. I’ll be waiting to see what what magic Ms. Giannini conjures up.
