Converting a rustic barn into a contemporary living space can be quite a challenge. It can not possibly be an easy job to harmonize the client’s wishes with a conversion project of such dimensions, but the team at The Anderson Orr Partnership delivered an impressive outcome.
The most demanding task of the brief was to create double-height rooms, in the limited volume of the vaulted spaces of the barn. In order to do so, the architects came up with a daring solution: that of building into the ground. The result is a series of imposing interiors, all displaying an inspiring rustic charm. The open plan living and dining space is generously-sized and bright, with just enough natural light from the refurbished windows. Exposed wooden beams add a touch of originality and energy to the social area. An outdoor garden with swimming pool complete the image of a dreamy modern residence.
