Here is a home that defies quite a few architecture rules. This unusual floating home is situated on Lake Union in Seattle, Washington, and was envisioned by Designs Northwest Architects. Its location is a privileged one, as it comes with expansive views of downtown Seattle. Moreover, the residence is one of the few that takes advantage of nature, right in the middle of an urban settlement.
This incredible floating home bypasses conventional principles of modern American architecture. As one analyses its exterior, industrial elements come into sight. But the residence does not inspire soberness or emptiness, like you would expect from a common industrial setting. On the contrary, by using wood in various key points, the architects managed to give the home a feeling of warmth.
The structure has a total living surface of 1200 square feet and was especially designed for a retired couple, with a passion for art and water. The interiors resemble those of a yacht, which is probably what the owners wanted. Decorative art works adorn the residence and create a unique space. The “living room” features a generous sofa, a modern fireplace and a giant glass door that can be retracted, in order to provide unobstructed views of Lake Union and Seattle.
