Modern and intriguing, today’s dream come is located in Washington, D.C. The contemporary architecture with an interesting design element that stands out gave the residence its name – the Barcode House. A series of horizontal lines adorn the facade of the residence, creating the effect of a large-scale commercial bar code. Virginia-based architect David Jameson explains that the house is an exploration of different elements joined in an inspiring design: heavy and light elements are mixed with old and new ones to create a unique display of architectural and design systems.

The Washington D.C. building rules stated that the addition needed to be a freestanding structure, while the site conditions only allowed building the new part of the residence in an upwards position, creating the possibility of designing the iconic bar code element. A series of structural steel rods lined up with the neighboring building elevations form a transparent collection of modern spaces, as the client asked, and a stucco circulation tower links the glass addition to the original row house.
