The social networking giant has created a special shade of nail polish, Social Butterfly Blue, in Facebook’s famous color.
Sold to employees in the store at the company’s Menlo Park headquarters (which of course has its own Facebook page) it’s available for $4.95, and unfortunately for all you social media junkies, it doesn’t look set to hit the wider retail market.
Bianca Bosker, tech editor for the Huffington Post, first noticed the product on the shelves, and tweeted a photo with the following caption “Facebook sells Facebook-blue nail polish (“social butterfly blue”) in its campus store”.
It’s not the first time the distinctive livery has appeared on beauty products. Last year Yves Saint Laurent created an eye shadow palette inspired by Facebook. Called Devoted to Fans, the palette, which sold for $55, mixed the social media company’s classic blue and white with grey and purple shades.
Will this create a trend for branded social media makeup and cosmetics? Would anyone want to wear a Google perfume or a twitter lipstick? Only time will tell…
