Frank D. Welch was a beloved architect in the Dallas area and his residence is now for sale.
The single-family attached Northern Hills residence is adjacent to the Katy Trail, just outside Highland Park. It’s 2,932 square feet (per appraiser) and has three bedrooms, three baths, an elevator and pool, surrounded by Ginko trees and red oaks.
Some of Welch’s trademarks in the construction of Cragmont Avenue include:
his signature use of St. Joe brick (from St. Joe Brick Works, Inc. in Pearl River, LA), soaring ceilings, rift-cut oak cabinetry in the kitchen, and lots of glass, including skylights, which let in volumes of light (a key element in his work).
Architectural historian, Stephen Fox, offered an insight on Welch. “His buildings were like him,” Fox said. “Low-key and tailored in appearance; energetic, insightful, exuberant, and inspiring in spirit.”
This architectural treasure is listed with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate for $1.179 million and is showcased by Luxury Portfolio.
