Adding color and geometry to our collection of Daily Dream Homes, we found this residence in a small town named Pound Ridge, New York, USA, to be the perfect candidate for this play of shapes and colors. The DPR Residence – a home that changes with the seasons – was designed by New York City-based studio Method Design. By extending and renovating a 1960′s modern house, architects created a stunning contemporary piece of architecture that responds to the three challenges they had to meet – creating a formal entry, adding a master suite, and sustainably re-clad the whole structure.
If you look at the before and after photo, you will understand the extent of this transformation – from boring and uncomfortable to modern and challengingly glamorous. The newly added master suite was designed to “float” on columns, the new cladding draws attention to the residential building during summer days, while in the winter, contrasting the showy surroundings, the house appears sober and imposing. Don’t you just love that vivid yellow used on frames at the front door and windows?
