The Barcelona chair, designed by famous Bauhaus architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Created for the German pavilion, which was also designed by Mies van der Rohe, at the world expo hosted in Barcelona, Spain in 1929. It was the seating for the queen and king during the expo, and the ottoman for their servants. The Barcelona chair features the pure compositional structure that now epitomizes Modern architecture. After many lawsuits, the chair’s exclusive manufacturing and sales rights accorded to Knoll by the designer in 1953.
