A little bling for your iPhone? Meet the world’s most expensive iPhone dock, made out of steel and gold. Weighing over 10lbs, the high end iPhone Dock designed by a former Lockheed Martin engineer is now available on Kickstarter. The docks vary in finish and material with prices that range from $79 to $999 dollars. The most expensive version is machined from a solid block of steel, and then plated in gold for a royal finish.
“I wanted it to feel like more of a mechanical sculpture than a run of the mill iPhone dock,” states Thomas Wietecki, Lead Designer.
The Infinity Dock has a door mechanism that makes removing your cord effortless, as well as micro suction pads on the bottom that secure the dock to smooth surfaces. In addition to being used to charge your lightning devices, a custom cord is included to charge micro USB devices as well.
Each part is machined from a solid piece of 6061 aluminum and then anodized in a multitude of colors and textures. They are sourcing all the parts and materials locally in California, and hand assembling each unit. It takes over 5 hours to make each one.
They are over 30% of the way to their Kickstarter goal, with over three weeks left in their campaign.
