Easter is just about 10 days away and we have already been celebrating it on Pursuitist with the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt in NYC, the most expensive edible Easter egg and Fabergé Easter at Harrods. Today it’s the $8.4 million diamond studded Easter egg that has made jaws drop with its glamorous avatar and over-the-top value.
Daily Mail reveals that the world’s most bling egg is unique and designed to be a cross between a Faberge egg and the Damien Hirst skull. Christened ‘Mirage’, the most expensive egg dazzles with over 1,000 diamonds on the outer surface. The diamonds, 100 of which are a unique cut, on the shell are worth $2.5 million.
And that’s just not enough to justify its price. The Mirage Easter Egg’s diamond encrusted shell encloses a beautiful 18 carat gold globe. Furthermore the globe’s shell also opens up to reveal a delicate rock crystal dove, perched on a gold olive branch. Symbolizing world peace, the dove and olive branch are hand carved in gold.
Designed by Manfred Wild, it took three years to create this intricately designed egg. It has been worked upon by skilled craftsmen from three continents. The egg’s anonymous owner has no plans to put this one-off creation on sale. However renowned jeweler Vashi Dominguez believes if anyone did make an offer in the ‘multiple millions’ the owner might be able to strike a deal.
Mr Dominguez also added that, ‘The owner doesn’t need to sell Mirage, but it is all about one-upmanship in the world of the billionaire and money does talk. Owning this special item would be a great coup for someone for whom money is no object.”
Every inch of this masterpiece is caked with diamonds and it opens up to reveal a lovely message. Blending glamour with a noble idea has raised the ante of the Mirage Easter Egg. Such a creation will have many billionaires and collectors with deep pockets desperately bidding much higher price for it.
