Woody Creek Distillers lays claim to being the first and only craft distillery in the United States that controls every element of vodka production. They grow their own potatoes at the Scanlan Family Farm in Woody Creek, Colorado, and source local fruits, grains and mountain spring water to produce its line of ultra-premium American spirits.
Woody Creek Distillers signature Potato Vodka is made from three ingredients: potatoes (native Colorado Rio Grande russet, Chepita and Lady Claire), mountain spring water and yeast. After being washed and mashed onsite at the distillery, the potato mash is then stripped and distilled once to produce its 80-proof vodka, which is bottled on site.
The outcome is a Woody Creek Potato Vodka. It’s a vodka with character – not afraid to actually have a taste.
On the nose, the spirit is clean and crisp. On the taste, you get a sweet, buttery-vanilla flavor. There is a decided silky/creaminess to Woody Creek Potato Vodka. It finishes dry.
We liked how Woody Creek Potato Vodka wasn’t afraid to challenge us. Vodka is often times dull – crafted not to offend anyone. Woody Creek Potato Vodka flaunts its character.
The results made Woody Creek Potato Vodka a joy in crafting mixed drinks. The spirit added something just a bit different to each cocktail – usually for the best. Our tasters especially enjoyed using the potato vodka to make a martini.
Woody Creek Potato Vodka runs about $40 a bottle – a bit expensive, but we highly recommend getting a bottle. If you like your vodka with a strong character, you’ll love giving Woody Creek Potato Vodka a try.
