A wine lover’s encyclopedia described as the most comprehensive ever written on the world’s 1,400 grape varieties is set to be released this fall.
Co-written by well-known wine writer Jancis Robinson, researcher Julia Harding and José Vouillamoz, a botanist and grape geneticist, Wine Grapes charts the origins, history and family tree of 1,368 grape varieties for the curious oenophile.
Chapters include a primer on the importance of grape varieties, the vine family, cutting-edge DNA profiling of grapes, and vine breeding.
More importantly, the book also details the kinds of wine produced by the distinct grape varieties and who makes the best.
The series could be seen as a follow-up to Robinson’s previous contribution to another wine reference guide, The Oxford Companion to Wine.
Wine Grapes: A complete guide to 1,368 vine varieties, including their origins and flavours, published by Allen Lane, is set for an October 25 release in the UK and an October 30 release in the US and will retail for £120 / $175.
