Díaz y Díaz Arquitectos have designed the contemporary interiors of an apartment in the Old Town of La Coruña, Galicia, Spain. What is so special about this project is the use of materials and lines to create an inviting atmosphere in an apartment where interior walls were removed to give the space extra light. All the spaces were given access to natural light – the kitchen, study and guest bedroom becoming part of the same sucupira wood box, while a second white cube containing the toilets, closets and the access occupies the rest of the 120 sqm floor plan. New modern furniture alternates with classics to give off a sense of quality and style, while the original floors combine chestnut tree wood, elondo and oak in a playful pattern.
“The reform involved the total demolition of the partition walls. The functional program has been reversed linking the kitchen to the lounge, where formerly a Venetian room existed, and creating a bedroom in the former kitchen. The removal of the partition walls, the nonexistence of doors and the glasses treated with acid facing the wells, bring the light into this house of rectangular plan.”
Causing a shift in space perception, the architects separated public from private with creativity. This resulted in the design of a welcoming collection of spaces. Enjoy!
