A vintage 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing has sold for a record $4.62 million at auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Gullwing featured a rare all-aluminium in mint condition.
Mercedes made only about 1,400 300SL coupes between 1954 to 1957 – with only 29 of being the lightweight “alloy” models – making it extremely rare.
The vehicle had been expected for fetch $2.5-3.0 million.
