Located in Dutchess County in upstate New York, this sleek modern guest house was designed using simple materials in a highly contemporary way in order to blend the architecture with the natural rural surroundings. Part of a farm property, the guest house features geothermal heating and cooling, radiant floors, motorized solar shading, photovoltaic panels, and rainwater harvesting as sustainable features that enhance its overall function and beauty.
Imagined by New York-based studio Desai Chia Architecture, the LM Guest House spreads over 2,000 square feet. Rectangular in shape and showcasing a high-performance glass facade, the structure was built on a steel frame that allows the roof to cantilever over public and private areas. Sweetening the design, white oak wood was used indoors to create a homey feeling, yet every space remained clean and functional. A compact slatted wood core hides mechanical and storage spaces and it also houses the bathroom. Additional guests are accommodated by two sleeping couchettes with built-in bunk beds.
Since owning your dream home is already done, why not start building a dream guest house?
