New places keep popping up all over the Ace Hotel. I had wanted to try this place out because I love oysters and I was in luck the other day. I met a friend at the lobby bar for a drink and she suggested we eat at the the John Dory Oyster Bar.
If you are looking for food that tastes amazing, then you should definitely try this spot. I’ll admit the portions aren’t huge, but this isn’t Outback or Red lobster. If you order the right things, you will not be disappointed. Just ask the wait staff what to order, they will point you in the right direction.
First of all the oysters are amazing, but everyone already knows that. After oysters we ended up with chilled crab avocado, which my friend is now obsessed with. The cold poached lobster was refreshing and delicious. The octopus in sherry vinegar along with the picked oysters and razor clam ceviche were extremely tasty, I can still taste that chive puree, mmmm. And of course my favorite the stuffed veal mussels. Please order that if you decide to go here, you’ll be doing yourself a favor.
As far as the service went, I felt it was extremely attentive and efficient. Maybe because the environment was so welcoming I didn’t really keep track of time, but regardless I felt we received our orders promptly. And the staff was very polite and helpful. Highly recommended.
