This Christmas, New Yorkers can raise a toast in style at one of the world’s most visited tourist attractions. The Campbell Apartment, a small cocktail lounge hidden in Grand Central Terminal, is going to remain open on Christmas Day for the first time. Considered the most glamorous place at the largest train station in the world, the Campbell Apartment is a small cocktail lounge hidden in the space. Although as the name suggests, the space was not designed to be an apartment. Originally built to serve as an office space and entertainment area for railroad tycoon John Campbell, it was neglected following his death in 1957. The room was later restored and opened in 1999 as the bar. While the walls and ceiling were restored to its former glory, the original steel safe, once hidden behind a wall, now sits in the massive fireplace as a reminder of Campbell’s wealth. The cocktail lounge certainly takes the guests back to the lifestyle of the ’20s era. Also it offers a word of caution to the guests by clarifying that ‘Absolutely no Athletic Shoes, T‑shirts, Sweatshirts, Baseball Caps, Shorts or Torn Jeans’. So bring in this festive season by stepping in to the sophisticated world of yester-years tucked away at one of the best bars in America.
