Sony has unveiled its new DEV-50V Digital Recording Binoculars. This is the second generation of digital recording binoculars from Sony, and there are some excellent improvements and additions, most notably the DEV-50V is smaller, lighter, and weatherproof.
While the DEV-50V are high performance binoculars, the device captures stills and video. Dual Exmor R CMOS sensors enable 20.4-megapixel still image and 1080/60p video capture. There is a two-channel internal mic and audio input. The binoculars also capable of recording both 2-D and 3-D images, even in lowlight situations. The dual 2.4M-dot XGA OLED viewfinders allow you to preview and play back three-dimensional content. The DEV-50V has a wide zoom magnification range from 0.8x to 25x and features autofocus. Sony says the optical SteadyShot offers twice the stability of its predecessor.
The DEV-50V weighs in at just under two pounds – 30% lighter than its predecessor.
Another major addition to the DEV-50V is the waterproof housing. This makes the binoculars perfect for outdoor sporting events or those less-than-perfect days outside.
Retail is $2,000 for the Sony DEV-50V Digital Recording Binoculars. They will be available this summer.
