Sonos is looking to shake up the home audio industry with the new Play:1 speaker. This is not just a Bluetooth speaker streaming music over your phone. This is a portal to a whole Internet of audio, one that you control with your phone or tablet. And all for $199. And don’t forget the great sound that accompanies Sonos products.
The new Play:1 speaker is about the size of a coffee can, available in white or black, and wrapped in a metal grille. It can play local music as well as live streams from thousands of radio stations, plus music from Pandora, Spotify, Rdio, SiriusXM, Songza and other services.
The Sonos Play:1, like all Sonos systems, require a network bridge. Sonos will be including the bridge for free (a $49 value) with a Sonos Play:1 purchase. The network bridge enables Sonos to talk to all of your devices and the Internet, as well as setting up a completely separate wireless mesh network for the music.
A user can then put as many Sonos Play:1 speakers anywhere in the house.
The $200 price tag is significantly lower than other competitors, making the Sonos Play:1 an attractive option for consumers.
Great price. Great speakers. Convenience. It all makes the Sonos Play:1 speakers are a winner.
