Not just limited to serving a hot cup of your favourite coffee, this interactive Roastery and Tasting Room is dedicated to roasting, coffee education and increasing availability of the company’s small-lot Reserve coffees. This means, every Reserve coffee bean sold to customers will be roasted in this institute. In fact about 1.4 million lbs. of coffee is projected to be roasted here in the next year.
This is the moment of the next generation of Starbucks is how Howard Schultz, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Starbucks, brews up about the new opening. Located in a 100 year old building, the world’s largest Starbuck has been cleverly designed to heighten all the senses. Visitors are welcome to be a part of the whole process right from selection to roasting to brewing and serving! At each step of the process, the clients are only feet away from the theater and artistry in a sophisticated yet relaxed environment.
This beautiful hand-hammered copper cask is where all of the coffee beans go to rest after roasting. Also a series of pneumatic tubes brings Reserve coffee at the peak of flavor directly to one of two coffee bars.
Vice president of Concept Design for Starbucks, Liz Muller encapsulates the coffee paradise as, “This is a real-life Willy Wonka experience with coffee as the heart and soul, where customers will see coffee being moved through the roasting process right before their eyes.”
The new universe of coffee goes high-tech too as the Roastery integrates digital innovation into the experience including a “Clacker” board with mechanical flaps displaying what’s roasting and by whom. Also a Coffee Passion Projection Wall made of smart glass displays images of coffee at origin on the company’s own farm in Costa Rica.
The coffee press is a great way to experience the full flavor of each coffee to find a favorite.
