Beautifully displaying its wooden silhouette on the shoreline of Austrian Millstätter lake, the Boat’s House rests at the base of a hillside slope adorns the fairytale green surroundings. Imagined by Vienna-based MHM Architects, the luxurious boat house is part wooden, part copper. Extending from underwater and land in an exploding combination of wood and copper, the contemporary construction respects local rules preventing the installation of a permanent dock. When not being used, the boat house hides behind a cube shape.
At night, artificial light from inside the boat’s home illuminates the water, creating a beacon of modern architecture and design. Siberian larch strips will weather with time, becoming grey and adapting to the surroundings, while the copper will receive a green patina, deepening the seamless connection. Folding elements revealing a platform also hide the owner’s boat, turning the challenge into a successful modern solution.
