ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS CELEBRATES AMERICA’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY

At the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., diplomacy met design, history met innovation, and one of the world’s most prestigious luxury brands helped celebrate one of America’s most significant milestones. The occasion was the United States’ 250th birthday, but the event represented far more than a ceremonial anniversary. It was a celebration of two nations whose relationship has evolved from revolution to one of the closest alliances in modern history.

Hosted in partnership with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America, the reception welcomed diplomats, administration officials, members of Congress, business executives, automotive enthusiasts and luxury connoisseurs. The atmosphere was unmistakably British—elegant without excess, sophisticated without pretension—while simultaneously celebrating the optimism and entrepreneurial spirit that have long defined America.

Right – British Ambassador Sir Christian Turner

British Ambassador Sir Christian Turner KCMG opened the evening by emphasizing that the “special relationship” is as relevant today as ever. Marking the first anniversary of the U.K.–U.S. Economic Prosperity Deal, he highlighted the remarkable scale of cooperation between the two countries. Annually, bilateral trade approaches $590 billion, while roughly $1.7 trillion is invested in each other’s economies. The United Kingdom remains one of America’s largest foreign investors, supporting businesses and jobs across dozens of states.

The Ambassador’s remarks balanced diplomacy with warmth. His good-humored observation that Britain and America had finally put their “little disagreement of 1776” behind them drew laughter, while his optimistic vision for the next 250 years reminded guests that today’s partnership is built not on nostalgia but on common values, innovation, commerce and mutual respect.

Luxury also took center stage as iconic British brand joined the celebration, demonstrating that craftsmanship remains one of Britain’s greatest exports. Naturally, it was Rolls-Royce Motor Cars that captured the admiration of everyone in attendance.

Gerry Spahn, Communications Director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America, reflected on the company’s remarkable relationship with America. For more than 120 years, Rolls-Royce has become part of the American success story, serving innovators, entertainers, industrialists and entrepreneurs who view the marque as the ultimate expression of achievement.

Gerry Spahn

One of the evening’s most compelling historical moments came when Spahn reminded guests that the United States once played an important role in Rolls-Royce manufacturing. Between 1921 and 1931, the company assembled motor cars in Springfield, Massachusetts—the only time in the marque’s history that production occurred outside the United Kingdom. That chapter reflects the strength of the American market, which remains Rolls-Royce’s largest single market today.

Modern Rolls-Royce production takes place exclusively at Goodwood in West Sussex, England. Every automobile is painstakingly handcrafted by highly skilled artisans. Customers work closely with the Bespoke design team to create unique commissions featuring custom paint finishes, veneers, embroidery, leather combinations and even personalized artwork. No two Rolls-Royce motor cars are exactly alike, making each one a rolling work of art rather than simply a luxury automobile.

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the exclusive Rolls-Royce USA 250 Collection. Finished in elegant interpretations of red, white and blue, the bespoke commissions honored America’s Semiquincentennial while maintaining the understated sophistication that defines the brand.

“Tonight, we’re proud to unveil the Rolls-Royce USA 250 Collection, and celebrate the enduring friendship between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Rolls-Royce;” said Gerry Spahn.

Created exclusively for the occasion, the three Bespoke commissions drew inspiration from the colors of the American flag. Together they represented a celebration of American heritage interpreted through British craftsmanship.

The collection comprises:

  • Bohemian Red Cullinan – represented the strength, courage and entrepreneurial spirit that have defined America for 250 years.
  • English White Phantom – reflected the nation’s founding ideals, timeless elegance and enduring pursuit of excellence.
  • Iguazu Blue Ghost – symbolized innovation, optimism and the limitless horizons that continue to define the American spirit.

Following the presentation, guests enjoyed a ceremonial toast celebrating the United States and the enduring partnership between America and the United Kingdom before gathering around a specially prepared birthday cake.

As America begins its next 250 years, the evening offered an elegant reminder that some of the world’s strongest partnerships are built through shared experiences as much as shared interests. At the event, diplomacy, commerce, innovation and luxury all found common ground.

For Rolls-Royce, the celebration reinforced why the marque continues to occupy a singular position in the automotive world. It is not simply a manufacturer of extraordinary motor cars; it is a curator of experiences, a steward of craftsmanship and a symbol of enduring excellence.
