As our adventure in Thailand continues, the next stop up is the island of Koh Samu, just an hour’s plane ride from Bangkok. Koh Samu is Thailand’s third largest island — a true tropical paradise full of beaches, coral reefs and mountainous hills. Our destination — a sneak preview of the brand-new and ultra-luxurious Conrad Koh Samu.
Comprising of 79 villas and 39 residential villas, the resort is located on a secluded hill, overlooking Aow Thai Beach at the South West tip of the island. Spread over 25 acres, the resort has panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand, outlying islands and the surrounding landscape of coconut plantations. And the sunsets are amazing.
The resort and spa recently opened, just weeks ago, so we couldn’t resist visiting. Conrad Koh Samu is authentically connected to the local Thai culture – and it resonates through the resort’s attention to detail, the architecture, the food and service. The resort was 7 years in the making, taking 4 years to build — and the quality in the construction is utterly apparent.
Each villa is furnished with tropical hardwood floors, Thai silk and unique artworks. They include full-height glass panes, and marble bathrooms that are fitted with spa-quality amenities, a glass–walled rain shower and an oversized bathtub. In-room technology is also provided, including a Satellite LCD flat-screen television, CD/DVD player, wired and wireless Internet connection, and an iPod docking station
A full review, videos and photographs of the Conrad Koh Samu resort are on the way — but here’s a sneak peek at our Conrad Koh Samu private villa and pool (and a video created from our iPhone). As we’re the first journalists invited to visit the new resort, here’s the exclusive first look inside the Conrad Koh Samu private villas:
