Mercedes-Maybach and Space Perspective: A Look Into the Beyond

During the Vancouver Island media launch for the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, assembled media attended a special session to explore the recently announced partnership with Mercedes-Maybach and  Space Perspective, the world’s first and only carbon-neutral spaceflight experience company. Founded in 2019 by human spaceflight veterans Jane Poynter and Taber MacCallum, Space Perspective has completely reimagined space tourism.

According to Space Perspective, their Spaceship Neptune makes human spaceflight safer and more accessible than ever before. Neptune features a pressurized capsule propelled slowly to 100,000 feet by Space Perspective’s giant SpaceBalloon. Neptune’s carbon-neutral approach is designed to be as gentle on Space Perspective Explorers as it is on the Earth.

The capsule’s customizable cabin accommodates eight Explorers and a Captain, and includes a world-class meal and cocktail service, Wi-Fi, a lavatory, and large windows. With no rockets, heavy g-forces or rigorous training required, Space Perspective touts Neptune space flight to be as easy as being on an airplane.

Space Perspective’s mission is to take as many people to space as possible because looking down on Earth from the blackness of space – the quintessential astronaut experience – will radically shift one’s perception of our world and our place within it. Astronauts often return from missions with a fire inside them to create positive change, and many get involved in environmental and societal causes.

Mercedes-Maybach has partnered with Space Perspective to bring the magic of Mercedes-Maybach to the end-to-end experience that Space Perspective offers its Explorers – prior to and following their life-changing trips to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Mercedes-Maybach Vehicles Will Transport Explorers During Spaceflight Trips

In line with the sustainable mindset of Space Perspective, Mercedes-Maybach will provide all-electric vehicles to shuttle Explorers and guests to Space Perspective facilities, local activities, and the launch site on Florida’s Space Coast. Thanks to this partnership, Space Perspective customers will be able to ride comfortably and sustainably to and from their trips to the edge of space.

Additionally, Space Perspective is in talks with Mercedes-Maybach on integrations of additional elements from the Mercedes-Maybach experience and brand. “Our partnership with Space Perspective will allow space explorers to ride in style on the ground, and for us to extend the highest level of Maybach refinement and brand experience to the edge of space,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach at Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

“Pairing our all-electric Spaceship Neptune with the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach represents a sustainable and inspiration-filled future, not to mention a heightened overall experience for Space Perspective Explorers,” said Jane Poynter, Founder and Co-CEO of Space Perspective.

“This partnership accelerates innovation and broadens market exposure for both companies’ respective positions of strength in electric automotive and space travel,” said Taber MacCallum, Founder and Co-CEO of Space Perspective.

Space Perspective is conducting crewless test flights this year, paving the way for crewed test flights next year, with the goal to begin commercial flights at the end of 2024 for their more than 1,650 ticketed Explorers to date, at the lofty cost of $125,000 per Explorer seat.
