Some husbands give their wives flowers and jewelry for their birthday. Others commission local bakers to come up with the most extravagant cupcake possible and are willing to part with $900 for it.
That’s what happened in Toronto recently, when Lisa Sanguedolce of Le Dolci bakery was approached by a man to create an over-the-top dessert to celebrate his wife’s 40th birthday.
After a few days of brainstorming, the pastry team came up with a concoction made with some of the most expensive ingredients in the world, including Krug Collection Brut champagne, 24-karat gold leaves, and a limited edition Courvoisier.
“It was a lot of labour, going back and forth with him, showing him sketches and sourcing everything,” Sanguedolce said Friday. “Our chef is amazing. She came up with it all. I was, like, this is beautiful.”
If you also love your wife (or husband) some $900-worth of chocolate and vanilla, Le Dolci will make the cupcake via special order.
Here’s the full list of ingredients:
-Kona Blue Mountain coffee
-sea salt from Camargue, France
-organic cane sugar
-Valrhona cocoa powder
-Tahitian vanilla beans
-pastry cream made with Krug Collection Brut champagne
-Rosewood Estate honey
-Normandy butter
-Amadei Italian chocolate
-24-karat gold dust and leaves
-a limited edition Courvoisier
