Kwiggle Bike: The World’s Smallest Folding Bike

Showcasing at this year’s massive bike expo Eurobike in Germany is what is now considered the world’s most compact folding bike: the Kwiggle Bike.

Designer Karstin Bettin’s Kwiggle Bike makes good use of a number of patented design elements that allow it to fold down to the size of 55 x 40 x 25cm (21.6 x 15.7 x 9.8 inches) — that means it could even fit into your carry-on luggage. Plus its seven-kilogram aluminium frame aren’t likely to weigh you down too much either.

While the Kwiggle does have a seat, it is more for leaning than sitting, so the rider is in an upright position. Still, Bettin says the bike can get up to speeds of 25km/h, with each revolution of the pedals translating to 4.5m of development.

Currently on display at Eurobike is a single-speed prototype, but Bettin promises a future model that would feature two to six gears, writes blogger Gizmag. Bettin aims to release the Kwiggle Bike before the end of the year, with pricing details not yet available.

If you’re looking for a folding bike, there are a slew of options, including the ubiquitous Bromptons HGL, which features H-type handlebars, mudguards, and six gears. Or try the Kansi 9twenty folding bike, the Raleigh Stowaway 3, or one of Dahon’s top-selling bikes.
