It’s not just Coco, clothes and cat that comes to mind when you think of Karl Lagerfeld’s expertise. The man is known to dabble in various subjects that do not fall in a straight line with his core profession of being a fashion designer. The creative genius has now teamed up with American rapper from Brooklyn, New York City. At first thought the collaboration suggests that Karl would have lent his voice. However, WWD reports that Karl Lagerfeld has signed on as art director for Theophilus London’s second full-length album.
Karl has art directed and photographed the cover of London’s latest album, Vibes. The two have also worked together on the cover art for the album’s first single, Tribe. It features a jumping shot of London wearing a wide-brimmed hat in a Dior jacket.
“I met Karl maybe three years ago,” the rapper explained. “[My agent] called me with Karl on speaker and Karl was like, ‘Yes, I’ll shoot your cover.’ I was freaking out, screaming. I was like a kid. I’ve always admired him. He’s a genius in so many different ways… I wanted to just shoot for the stars.”
London added that Karl’s handwriting is even on the cover.
The single will be available for purchase on iTunes on Tuesday, while the full album, produced by Brodinski and Club Cheval, will be released in October.
