Rumours say that Amazon is up to something. Apparently, after several discussions with the Chinese manufacturer Foxconn (already known for working with Apple) and after paying $26 million to the British startup, True Knowledge, for a voice assistant app called Evi (similar to Apple’s Siri), that actually works on any iPhone or Android phone, Amazon might surprise us with…another unexpected gadget! After the success of Kindle Fire, if we follow the logical steps, we could expect seeing soon, the company’s very first smartphone.
Charlie Kindel, the Microsoft’s ex-Windows Phone General Manager, has been recently hired by Amazon. When asked what exactly is he doing, Kindel (his name makes this story even funnier) replied: “I’m building a new team going after a totally new area for Amazon. I’m hiring cloud and mobile developers and testers, program managers, and product managers”.
The smartphone market is undoubtably one of the most competitive and most players (expect Apple and Samsung) have difficulties in maintaining a price that doesn’t go suddenly down. If Amazon is working at a smartphone to compliment the Kindle tablet line, than what will be their strategy? According to Digi Times, the new gadget will have a 4.7 inch display, at least 2GB RAM and 4G. An official release has not been communicated yet.
