Internet Explorer may not be the behemoth it was a decade ago, but it is still the top browser in the world, with over 50% of the market. But that’s a far cry from the 90% market share that the Microsoft browser held 10 years ago.
The reviews suggest that IE 9 is a very good piece of software. Reviewers have particularly praised the speed of it. Microsoft, it seems, has finally put out a quality browser.
Unfortunately, the world has changed – a lot – since 2001. The desktop and laptop have been joined by the smartphone and the tablet. Microsoft’s latest might be a little too late to the marketplace. IE 9 will no doubt rule in the workplace desktop (good for Microsoft, so they can continue selling their cash-cow Office suite), but Safari, Firefox, Chrome and other browsers are here to stay.
