Fans of Ian Schrager’s first ‘EDITION’, in London, have barely been able to contain their excitement about the hospitality trailblazer’s newest editions on this side of the pond: Miami Beach EDITION which opened last Fall and a New York EDITION planned for an opening in Times Square in 2017.
But surprise! There’s a second New York EDITION in the works which will open even earlier, as early as April 1, 2015. (No joke. This isn’t an early April Fools.)
This first new New York EDITION, currently being built out of the historic Met Life Clock Tower building on Madison Avenue, will have 355 rooms. The Times Square location will be larger, with over 400 rooms.
EDITION is a luxury lifestyle hotel brand created in partnership with Ian Schrager that is on track to have six hotels operating in major global gateway cities on three continents by the end of this year. Working on these projects with Marriott has been “a privilege and a once in a lifetime opportunity” according to Schrager.
But the lifetime of the prestigious designer does continue to be a rather busy one.
Schrager is also opening two Public hotels in New York through his own Ian Schrager Co. this year. The first, confirmed by the designer to Page Six, will be at 215 Chrystie St. (a property which he bought last year), and the other one will be on the far West Side.
Schrager is also helping to develop a residential property at 357 West St like the one he currently operates in Chicago — a hybrid luxury hotel with fewer amenities, but which boasts a restaurant run by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
