The Italian luxury fashion house smartens up by joining hands with the Black Eyed Peas singer to design a smartband. Announcing their collaboration at Baselworld 2015, Gucci and will.i.am have designed a wearable standalone device that can operate without having to be tethered to a smartphone.The yet-to-be unveiled wearable tech collaboration is called Fashionology by will.i.am. Technology is infused into the world of will.i.am as an essential element and it powers everything that he does. The Gucci will.i.am smartband is conceived to make and receive phone calls as well as send and receive text messages and emails too. It stores music, maps, and calendar and assists in tracking the wearer’s fitness. The “sophisticated personal assistant” which is also activated by voice command also features a front-facing camera for video calling.
At the Baselworld Watch and Jewelry Show, will.i.am along with Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri flaunted the prototype device that appeared to be thick, wide band strapped on the wrist.
Marco Bizzarri stated, “Wearable technology and smart devices represent a new frontier for the fashion industry. It is very appropriate that Gucci is leading the way through this collaboration with will.i.am, as innovation has always been such an important part of our DNA.”
Details regarding pricing, distribution, and launch timing of the the fashionable wearable technology that will operate as a completely stand alone smartband will be announced in due course.
