Paying a tribute to sustainability and green thinking, studio Kengo Kuma and Associates designed a modern building in Odawara, Japan, with a facade displaying pixelated aluminum planters.
The new project occupies a total surface of 11,000 square feet and shelters four levels plus parking space and terrace above. Passers-by strolling on the street in front of the building are likely to be amazed by the lovely planters defining the entire facade. Here is some information from the architects describing the green system: “ The 3 (up to 6) aluminum panels, which also form planters, are made in mono-block casting. Each panel is slanted, and its surface appears to be organic, of which cast comes from decayed styrene foam. Equipment such as watering hose, air reservoir for ventilation and downpipes are installed behind the panels so that the facade can accommodate a comprehensive system for the building.”” The project is home to a clinic, a pharmacy, offices and a vocational school.
