The Balvenie PortWood Scotch, aged 21 years, is a fantastic whiskey that should not be missed.
The Balvenie Scotch makers are exceptional. The distillery still grows its own barley, still malts in its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a team of coopers to tend all the casks, and a coppersmith to maintain the stills. This adherence to tradition and attention to detail makes for some amazing vintages.
The Balvenie PortWood Scotch, aged 21 years, is a single malt that brings an additional period of maturation in 30 year-old Port pipes that gives this drink an extra level of depth and concentration of flavor, adding potent fruit and smoke notes to the silky-smooth full-bodied palate.
Ultimately this Scotch has a remarkable creamy and silky character, with hints of fruit, honey and spices.
Cost is between $150-200.
