The wildly successful Groupon has had the gauntlet thrown down.
Internet behemoth Google has announced that it will be launching Google Offers, a direct competitor to Groupon.
Google Offers will operate much like Groupon. Users receive an e-mail with a local deal of the day and have a specific time frame to act on the deal – Groupon offers 24 hours. There are only so many of the offers available, so once all the deals are bought, that’s it.
Google tried to buy Groupon for $6 billion late last year, but the deal was rejected.
