Fashion meets food at Spain’s Cristobál Balenciaga Museum

Fashion and food will collide this weekend at the Cristobál Balenciaga Museum in Spain, where chefs and designers will collaborate to bring two of the most esthetic and creative disciplines together.

The ninth edition of Cook & Fashion will be held for the first time at the Getaria museum in the Basque region of northern Spain, where designers will pair their creations with signature dishes from the area, including Montaditos sandwiches — traditional, bite-sized sandwiches made with a baguette-style bread typical of the area — and ham croquettes.

Participating chefs include a roster of the some of the country’s best-known Michelin-starred names such as the Arzak family of Arzak restaurant, Joan Roca of El Celler de Can Roca, currently ranked the second best restaurant in the world by Restaurant magazine, and France’s Guy Martin.

The culinary creations will be paired with pieces by emerging designers Maider Alzaga, Ali de Bali, Tytii Thusberg, Alex Robe and Iraia Oiartzabal as well as well-known design talents like Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada and Adolfo Domínguez.

It’s not the first time food and fashion have intersected. The showstopping event at the largest chocolate show in the world, Le Salon du Chocolat in Paris, for instance, is the perennial fashion show in which master chocolatiers create wearable and edible high fashion using chocolate.

Cook & Fashion will be held at the Cristobál Balenciaga Museum December 8.
