The Tori Tori Restaurant in Polanco, Mexico City, is the result of the design collaboration between studio Rojkind Arquitectos and workshop Esrawe Studio. With a striking blue exterior, meant to attract the attention of the workers in the surrounding office area, it is difficult to believe this Japanese restaurant is built with respect for tradition in mind.
The architects clear up this dilemma: “Although the client’s requirements were oriented towards a Japanese interpretation, it was not literal, he wanted the place to have its own personal expression, contemporary and cosmopolitan. This was achieved by enhancing its spatial existing conditions through different experiences and having the new range of open spaces, its terraces, its sake bar and its own exclusive temple oriented to the highly demanding sushi lovers”.
Each interior of the restaurant is very well defined and designed in close relationship to its function. The contrasts between the rooms are strong, but this only makes the restaurant appeal to a large variety of visitors.
