Appealingly designed by Sag Harbor-based studio Bates Masi Architect, this home displays a privacy screen at the entrance that slides to reveal a welcoming suite of contemporary spaces. According to the architects, the house “became a study in architectural theater: a series of spaces in a carefully scripted sequence that subtly reflect his professional life.”
Intentionally placed to delimit the different spaces throughout the home, dark floor deck boards also compose a seamless connection to the outdoors. Two parallel staircases – an interior one lined with stainless steel cables and an outdoor one – lead to the private spaces upstairs, where the main bedroom and balcony lay across a catwalk from the bathroom. The Noyack Creek Residence features an almost hidden guest room under the stairs, offering privacy to both the inhabitants and guests. Naturally lit and overlooking the creek nearby, the modern house charms with its volumetric black and white architecture.
