Luxuriously built for a friend of architecture studio Jonathan Segal FAIA on an oceanfront plot in La Jolla, California, the fascinating Lemperle Residence was designed to become an observation platform for the inspiring surroundings views. Extensive glazing and decks at different levels create a powerful connection to the outdoors:
“Due to the small pie shaped lot the house focuses outward away from the street onto the ocean. Every room above grade space in the house is forced to the ocean through the use of vertical and horizontal planes defining visual edges. These edges also create an air of privacy from the adjacent neighbors.”
Concrete, steel, walnut and glass were the main building materials that allowed the construction of such and imposing residence overlooking the ocean. A carefully studied floor plan, alongside vivid colors create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Even the basement floor was naturally lit with the help pf glass flooring and light wells, creating a seamless connection to natural light. Solar panels ensure almost all the necessary power, while floor heating throughout the house keeps the temperature constant and cross ventilation brings in the breeze. All these elements and a creative interior design create a stunning ocean dream home!
