House Dukken in Johannesburg shouts about our collective desire to be more in tune with the surrounding nature. Its inhabitants asked Johannesburg-based architectural practice Nico van der Meulen Architects to design them a home that would provoke the senses with a seamless connection to the outdoors. This South African dream home
was to be spacious, textured and inviting.
Reaching to the outdoors via extensive use of glass, the interiors were designed to float towards the outside and each space provides a social function inspired by the need to communicate, whether it’s with words or with design. An open floor plan helps merge living spaces and offer a flow that encourages natural ventilation and the appreciation of surrounding panoramas. Blending in the natural decor by employing the use if natural materials in its construction, today’s dream home is adorned with earthy nuances and just a splash of color to enliven the atmosphere. Site-specific design mirrors in the terraced garden, while the northern facade was built to expose the interiors to natural light.
Do you like the openness of this dream home design?
