Today’s dream home is located in Limpopo, South Africa – a perfect place to build a residence that would encompass a laid back lifestyle in spaces flooded by natural light. House Aboobaker was re-designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects and now proudly displays a wonderful collection of space. “The brief was to transform the look of the existing visually unattractive face brick house with vaulted roofs, small windows to something stunning and modern.” And so the project began. Challenged by excessive tropics heat, the architects had to ensure the interiors were comfortable and take advantage of modern technologies and natural elements while offering a visually pleasant experience.
The front facade – although attending to the inhabitants’ need for privacy – displays an inviting design completed with a special water feature that offers a hint about the back garden’s design. Originally spreading over 343 square meters, the interior spaces were modified with the help of steel into open areas and stunning double volume spaces. Here, a sculptural staircase offers both an access to the top floors and a visual separation of the living zones. An additional 151 square meters and extensive remodeling of the spaces resulted in creating the “minimalistic opulence” requested by the client.
