This dream home will be appreciated by anyone who loves how wood can become the perfect building material and construct a warm atmosphere in and around a contemporary residence. The Great Barrier House by Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects is a wonderful wooden residence located on Great Barrier Island, New Zealand – hence the name. Surrounded by imposing native trees, this modern residence was elevated in case of flooding, resting on a platform that enhances its simple beauty and slightly rises towards the nearby hill.
Mirroring the inspiring surrounding trees, the facade of this wood house was carefully designed to showcase an exterior design perfectly adapted to the surroundings and accentuating the powerful indoor/outdoor connections. The private bedrooms are placed near the trees, creating an intimate, comforting atmosphere. Social spaces are flooded with natural light and the inhabitants can enjoy their sustainable residence where wood and glass compose an elegant, modern collection of spaces.
