Located in Laguna Hills, California, today’s dream home was built for a couple who have a background in building and wanted to put their skills to good use once again, this time creating a home for themselves. Searching for the perfect ocean view property, they stumbled upon this site with a stunning 180-degree view which later became an inspiring home. Designed by Whipple Russell Architects, the spacious home had to become an aesthetically pleasing part of the neighborhood flaunting a traditional style. So they chose to go with “a modern take on the Prairie style; an exterior of natural materials – brick, wood and plaster – framed by clean lines and long eaves, would fit beautifully into the traditional neighborhood.”
Known as the Buckskin Drive residence, the home displays a cluster of social and private spaces that beautifully combine modern design elements with traditional ones, adding character to the street while keeping the family and neighbors happy with the design. Wood and bricks were used to fabricate a soothing interior style flooded by both natural and artificial light. The husband proved his craftsmanship working on the details that build such a magnificent home: ” the 4 x 4 plan grid that extends from the ground floor to the top floor, the wood joinery and custom cherry wood cabinetry, the trapezoidal front door that pivots on a pin, the garages he cleverly kept off of the face of the property by sculpting the lot and removing 5 feet of dirt.”
The second owners influenced the design by introducing elements from their own country – Montenegro. After all this work, the residence was completed, proudly displaying its interior design, exterior architecture, landscape and pool area within a natural environment. You might remember the Summit House – part of the same architect’s portfolio. Do you see any resemblance in style in both homes?
