Inside your home, seats are usually the most important places to relax. If you can find the perfect lounge chair, then your lazy afternoons will be sparkling with comfort. Here is where the modern Mussel Chair comes into play – it nestles your body into a hard shell with a soft interior, allowing you to interact with it in many ways. Created by Danish designer Hanne Kortegaard, this chair was born as the artist’s graduation project from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.
This contemporary chair designs was imagined as a sculptural piece of furniture intended for both adults and children. It can be used by parents to communicate and be close to their kid, interacting with them at a close and personal level – reading books will be as comfortable as riding the fairytale chariot. The artist tried to create a shape reminiscent of mussels, in which you can feel protected and relaxed when lounging alone, but also create a deep connection when the chair is shared with your little one.
“I have tried to visualize the symbiosis that can occur between child and adult in a cozy environment. Transferring the concept and form of the mussel, into a form where I have let myself be inspired by the mussels idiom. Because the mussel for me symbolizes and expresses the symbiosis and dependence of two objects – the shell and the mussel.”
