California is revered for being home to Hollywood as well as over-the-top celebrity properties. However its not all glamour that is associated to it as the most populous U.S. state has been struggling for water for the last four decades. As California enters its fourth year of drought, this season the heat has shifted to the celebrity-owned mega-mansions’ lush lawns. It isn’t rocket science to understand that big estates with green landscaping tend to use a lot more water to keep gardens fresh and lawns green than other properties. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Barbra Streisand, Jessica Simpson, Petra Ecclestone and others in California are facing a #droughtshaming campaign over their sprawling lush green lawns. Targeting the A-listers, it is also estimated that 70 percent of the district’s water is going to the lawn maintenance of about 100 manicured estates.Even the mayor of Beverly Hills is officially supporting efforts to make the rich and famous cut back on their water use to cope up with California’s worst drought in history. It is also predicted that California reservoirs have less than a year’s worth of drinking water left. The Hidden Hills estate of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is so lush, even the wealthy neighbors are outraged. It is also known that water investigators have drafted a letter to Kim, warning her to cut water use on her estate by 50 percent. The act of naming-and-shaming people who are wasting water on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter has caught up and is aiming hard at the rich and famous celebrity residents of California!
