Cadillac announced that it will build an electric luxury coupe called the ELR. It will use a drive train similar to what GM developed for the Chevrolet Volt. This includes a combination T-shaped lithium-ion battery, an electric motor and a four-cylinder engine-generator. Cadillac calls the ELR a plug-in hybrid.
The new vehicle will attempt to compete with BMW’s successful 3-Series.
No pricing details were released.
