Apple has started a subscription service for publishers such as newspapers and magazines, allowing them to sell subscriptions via the company’s online App Store.
Much like the recently launched ‘The Daily’ e-news paper, they system will use App Store billing system to allow consumers to buy applications for the iPhone or iPad.
Publishers will have the ability to set the length of a subscription (monthly, weekly, etc.) and price. Apple will keep 30% of the fee, but the publisher gets to collect the names and contact information of the subscriber.
