2025 Infiniti QX80: Shots Fired in the Luxury SUV Segment

There’s a new player in the large luxury SUV segment, the all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80.

Now in its third generation, the new QX offers luxury, high technology, and stunning design as it clearly has fired a salvo at Lexus LX, Cadillac Escalade, BMW X7, Audi Q8, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The all-new QX80 was revealed earlier this year in a spectacular rooftop display at Edge at Hudson Yards, 100 stories above Manhattan.

“The Edge is the highest and largest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, and what better way to herald a new chapter for Infiniti than with the all-new 2025 QX80? This stunning rooftop reveal was more than just a launch event. It was a statement of our commitment to elevating luxury in the SUV segment. The all-new QX80 combines powerfully evocative design, a curated cabin, and next-level technology to create an effortless, seamless driving experience. This vehicle is truly artistry in motion, providing both efficiency and luxury” said Craig Keeys, Group Vice President, Infiniti Americas.

Pursuitist was invited to Napa Valley, California for the media/lifestyle drive event. To say we were impressed with this ground-up new model would be an understatement!

QX 80 Styling and Interior

An incredibly handsome vehicle, the QX80 features the newest iteration of Infiniti’s Artistry in Motion design language, which emphasizes minimalism while featuring extraordinary details. Natural, organic shapes inspired many elements, including a front grille that recalls the appearance of bamboo forests, taillights mimicking the reflections of light over rippled water, and rubber inlays sculpted with the appearance of sand in a traditional Japanese Zen garden.

Inside, driver and passengers are treated to available semi-aniline leather upholstery and standard open-pore ash wood trim with laser-cut metal inlays. Cool optional features include a 64-color Personalized Ambient Lighting system and first-and second-row massaging seats.

QX 80 Technology

The new QX80’s technology features are light-years ahead of the outgoing model, which had a dated interior. QX80 employs advanced technologies, including Google built-in, Google Maps, and other popular apps embedded directly in QX80’s 14.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

A multitude of camera systems, including the innovative Invisible Hood View, enhance visibility for maneuvering and parking. Invisible Hood View is pretty slick with cameras mounted below the car that give the impression you’re looking through the hood. The system works well! The available Ultra Wide View mode extends camera views over the vehicle’s dual 14.3-inch displays for even greater visibility.

If you like high-powered, crystal clear audio, then the standard Klipsch audio systems, including the 24-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system on SENSORY and AUTOGRAPH grades are what you need. Both systems deliver outstanding clarity and lifelike audio to all three rows.

Another super cool feature is Individual Audio, which allows for focusing only certain audio elements – such as navigation directions, music, or phone calls – to the driver’s seat. During another demo on our test drive, I took a call while behind the steering wheel and could clearly hear the caller while the rest of the occupants enjoyed Klipsch audio-playing at a loud level. Individual Audio is a very unique and impressive system.

QX80 Performance

The new QX is motivated by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine outputting 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque – increases of 50 horsepower and 103 pound-feet versus the previous generation QX80. The engine is mated to a silky smooth nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

On the road, the new QX offers a supple ride and is serenely quiet. And while the roads in Sonoma California where we tested the new model are smooth, rest assured that urban road warriors will also enjoy the impressive road performance and comfort dynamics imbued into the new QX80.

Our top trim AUTOGRAPH testers were equipped with electronic air suspension, which can lower the vehicle by nearly three inches when parked to facilitate easier loading of cargo and a lower entry height for passengers. In addition, the available Dynamic Digital Suspension constantly evaluates the road surface and the vehicle’s behavior to regulate body motions for a more controlled driving experience and a more comfortable ride.
