A look at the trend toward silver jewelry by some designers – as well as some other up-and-coming trend tidbits.

As every year passes, I feel more mulishly resentful about Christmas – the hype, the pressure, the manic rush ending in the miserable surrender to buying expensive stuff no one wants. Which is the more depressing: giving, while suspecting the gift is off-beam, or receiving, while having to feign delight? This year, though – partially helped by the inspiration of my daughters, and an epiphany visited on me at the collections in October – I have a plan of action, as far as girls and women are concerned. Jewellery is the answer, if you want to give a gift that has a chance of being imbued with sentimental, even talismanic value. I know that sounds soppy, or, worse, suspiciously like an advertising cliché, but in these bleak and soulless days, a token that creates a lasting feeling of love, fondness or warmth, feels like a good and proper thing to give. Besides which, certain kinds of jewellery have suddenly overtaken others in the fast lane of fashionability. Cleverly selected, they’ll have tons of wear in them for next year, thus transcending the dreaded aspect of “festive” bauble which ends up in a drawer on the slow road to 2014’s church fair. – From Telegraph
